Since its establishment in 2017, the Iten-Kohaut Foundation has provided a total of CHF 10 million to fund practical research at USZ. This substantial funding has benefited 78 researchers. The foundation issued its final call for projects in 2025 and will cease its activities at the end of this funding round.
On behalf of all the recipients, we would like to thank the President of the Foundation Board, Dr. Hans Nater, the Vice-President, Prof. Gustav von Schulthess, and the Managing Director, Yela von Schulthess, for their trust and generous support.
We are convinced that the founders, Sophielène and Max Iten-Kohaut, would be delighted to see how their donation has enabled advanced medicine and cutting-edge research at USZ. Thanks to their forward-thinking commitment, numerous projects have been implemented that directly benefit patients.
About the Iten-Kohaut Foundation
Auto Iten AG was the life’s work of Max and Sophielène Iten-Kohaut. In their will, they expressed their wish to establish a foundation to help people with health problems after their death. Owing to their personal experience, they chose to focus the foundation’s support on cancer, cardiovascular disease, rheumatism, and eye disorders, with a special emphasis on young researchers. As the Iten-Kohaut couple had close ties to University Hospital Zurich, the foundation primarily directed its support to the USZ. Having exhausted its financial resources, after almost ten years the foundation is now ending its funding activities. We would like to express our sincere thanks for this long-standing partnership, which has strengthened medical research at the USZ so effectively.
