Even though there has been a major decline in the number of coronavirus infections in Switzerland, the pandemic continues to affect many countries across the world. And a second wave cannot be ruled out. This makes it all the more important to get a better understanding of the Covid-19 disease and improve its treatment. The USZ Corona Solidarity Fund is supporting a further project with precisely this goal in mind.
The Emergency Department at University Hospital Zurich aims to help clarify the differences between different groups of patients: those tested positive for the coronavirus, those tested negative but with symptoms typical of Covid-19, and those tested negative with atypical symptoms.
For the study the department will be analyzing the data of all patients who have come to the USZ emergency service on suspicion of Covid-19 in the past, and of those who come in the future. Patients will also be asked how their state of health has developed and what the mental and socioeconomic consequences have been. This will enable the research team to elucidate key questions around the coronavirus pandemic and optimize patient care in future pandemics.
