Better quality of life for children and young adults

The Palatin-Stiftung foundation has made a renewed donation to the USZ Foundation to support two projects at University Hospital Zurich, both of which aim to improve therapy and thus quality of life for children and young adults.

Professor Nicole Lindenblatt, a senior attending physician at the Department of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery, is engaged in a project looking into the treatment of lymphedema. Nowadays good results are achieved in adults with the help of surgery. Nicole Lindenblatt now wants to also establish this therapy for children in collaboration with Children’s Hospital Zurich.

Dr. Katrin Rauen, a guest researcher at the Department of Neurology, is doing research designed to improve treatment for children and young adults with traumatic brain injury. Many of those affected suffer permanent disabilities, even if their brain damage was initially classified as mild. Katrin Rauen is looking for biomarkers to identify injured patients with long-term sequelae early and adjust their treatment accordingly.

We wish both researchers every success with their projects!
