Excellent music research

USZ music therapist Friederike Haslbeck has been awarded this year’s Susanne Klein-Vogelbach-Preis. Every year, a foundation called the Georg und Susanne Klein-Vogelbach-Stiftung awards the prize for outstanding research in neurosciences, orthopedics or anatomy.

Dr. Friederike Haslbeck has been honored for her research into the question of how creative music therapy affects the brains of children who are born prematurely. There have not yet been many studies looking into this. The findings so far show that music soothes babies, can activate various areas of the brain and strengthen the connections between neural networks. It thus has great potential to improve their quality of life.

Friederike Haslbeck at the USZ Department of Neonatology is a pioneer in music therapy for premature babies. USZ Foundation supports her with funding her research.
